JEFCOED Internship

During the Summer of 2025, I interned at the Jefferson County Board of Education (JEFCOED) with their communications department. The experience has been extremely rewarding, and I am proud of the work and collaboration I have done there. Below is some content that I contributed to during my time with JEFCOED.

During the month of June and while I was interning, JEFCOED’s views and link clicks went up on Facebook. I am proud to see that creative and efficient work I have done at JEFCOED contributed to this.

SOAR & fLOURISH AT mINOR cOMMUNITY sCHOOL

The Digital Communications Specialist, Emma Owen, and I went to Minor Community School to make content to show our audience Flourish Alabama helping students at JEFCOED’s Summer program, SOAR (Strengthening our Academic Reasoning). SOAR is a program that helps students who fall behind in the typical school, and Flourish is an Alabama-based nonprofit that creates spaces for students to showcase different art forms. In this case, the students are performing their original poetry! I showcased the positive impact that JEFCOED’s summer program has on the students through this post. Emma and I created the caption and took the photos.

Registration Help Sessions

The Digital Communication specialist, Sarah Ching, asked me to create templates for a campaign that promotes JEFCOED’s in-person registration help sessions. Most parents who need these sessions are either parents with a child starting Kindergarten or they have recently moved to Jefferson County, so I created a lighthearted and welcoming tone for the graphics to relieve any worries for parents. I used simple language to accommodate parents who do not have much education and for parents whose first language is not English, so that the post is easily translated. As of a result of my templates for the campaign, the first help session was successful. The Technology Integration Specialist, Kimberly Jaggard, said that because of my templates, she “…a record number of families on our first day of registration assistance…”

It is so important to show how different schools help each other in Jefferson County, and that is what I wanted to showcase with this reel. I wanted to highlight the community within Jefferson County. In this reel, Clay Elementary is feeding Clay-Chalkville High School’s football team. Not only is this such a kind thing to do, but it is a great way for students who went to Clay Elementary to reconnect with past teachers. Emma Owens and I came up with the caption below.
